A tale of 2 mothers.

Today is a special day for me.  It would have been Mama Marilyn's 83rd birthday, so I am thinking back on the past and what a wonderful, loving and caring mother she was.  I was an only child adopted by a childless couple, and although my life had it's usual ups and downs, the one constant thing was my Mama's love.  I still miss her, but I will see her again someday.

Mama and Sherry (our youngest)

She passed away in 1994.  And I will have to say that I never thought of looking for my birth family, until I was carrying our girls.  Jim's family had twins and triplets in their family and I was always wondering about my medical back ground and since I was an only child, if I had brothers or sisters somewhere.

In 1999 we got our first computer, and shortly after that, our daughter Julie saw a reunion story of an adopted child finding a birth parent and family, and she urged me to look with what little I knew. Since both of my adopted parents were now gone, I decided to try.  I did all the usual, going to the Soundex registry, trying to find information for the children's home I was adopted from, and the State of Colorado.   Unfortunately the records were sealed.  I then found a forum for adopted kids and birth parents looking for their family members, and spent lots of time on that forum absorbing information, and asking questions.  There were some great reunion stories, and some sad ones where the parent did not want to admit their past and see their child.

I then sent for my non-identifying information from the state.  That is where they take your information, make a copy of it, and then black out all the information that is sealed, take another copy of it, and send that copy to you.  What remains is the information that is the same.  And with that I found my middle name was the same as the name my birth mom gave me..... and..... they sent me the wrong copy.  So, I was able to glean information off of that copy that led to me to finding Mama Phyllis.
We live only a couple hours away from her.

When we met.

I had always thought that I was so much like Mama Marilyn, Jim could not ever tell our voices apart on the phone.... but, Mama Phyllis is just a miniature me.  We think alike, stand alike, looked alike, and although I never felt different being adopted as a child, I now felt complete.  Like a missing puzzle piece was found and now I could see the whole picture.  Both Mama's had a hard life, but were so much alike in their actions, and what they believed.  It was amazing.

Our completed family.

11 years later, my siblings will say to me, ( yes I have 3 sisters and a brother ) Connie remember when we.... oh yeah.... you were not there.  I forgot.  We have forgotten there was a time I was not a part of their life.  I am so blessed!  And yes, Mama Phyllis is still with us and none of us can keep up with her.

Would I encourage adopted kids, or parents that gave kids away to look?  Yes!  You will at least find out some information about yourself.  It will not change your love for the parents that raised you, and hopefully your outcome will be as good as mine.  Thankfully many states have unsealed the records so it will make it easier for you.

My real father actually lives here in town.  He knows that I exist, but I know that he has not told any of his family.  He knows that Mama and I have found each other as well.  But, that is ok, I have to honor the fact that he does not want them to know.

So, as I remember Mama Marilyn I thought I would share this story with you.  God has blessed me beyond measure!

A wonderful time of year!

Christmas is so busy but so much fun! We hope that yours was blessed!
Jim and I were abit behind to start with, but we got it all done despite having to work even on Christmas day.  Our middle daughter Julie prepared the meal ( Prime Rib... yummy ). And we went over after I got off of work at 3:30 pm.

Julie had been trying a new receipe.  Trying to make cake pops.  I am sure you have seen them on pinterest or in magazines.  They are so cute.  She deceided to make some for her son Logan's class as a reward for one of their big accomplishments.  However they would not stay on the stick... so she made these...
They were a hit, the kids loved them!
Then she suprised us with the official pops at our Christmas dinner.

And they were yummy!
So, what new things did you do for Christmas?

The Spirit of Christmas

People are scurring around trying to find Christmas gifts for everyone.... and yet you see all around acts of kindness.  People collecting food for the needy.  Toys for Tots, and winter clothes for those that need it.  It is so special to see the good come out in people at this season.  We are wishing that could carry on through out the year.  God's Love in action.  What a difference it would make to see it year round!

We are getting abit slower getting all the tasks done this year, but things are slowly falling into place.  Most of the decorations are up.  Starting the shopping ( yep... running late).  Letter is done and being printed.  We so love hearing from our friends and catching up on their lives.

Christmas is a wonderful season.  Give someone a smile today, and see whose life you might brighten with an act of kindness.  Celebrate love!

Thanksgiving 2011

We hope your Thanksgiving was a special as ours was!  We were blessed to have almost all of our kids and grand kids with us and got some great family pictures, one of which we are going to share.

As we get into the holiday season especially, our heart goes to home and the family, and nothing is more precious to this Ma and Pa then the kids.  We are so proud of all of them, what they are doing and what they are all becoming.  We look at our crew now and cannot imagine where the time has gone.... but just one look at the teen grandkids you can see it has whized by.  And no matter what we all have, or don't have we are so thankful to God for giving us the blessing of this beautiful family.  After all, life is what you focus on isn't is?  And we are so blessed!

Busy fall days!

Ma and Pa have been busy these last few days helping Julie and Micah and boys.  These three mighty hunters went out hunting and each one got their doe!  Needless to say they were all very happy, and Julie and Ma and Pa were very proud of them.

There has been many happy days out in God's country with our family, camping and rock hunting and hunting game.  Pa cannot go anymore, but sure is proud of the kids. Such a wonderful time of memories that were made last weekend between father and sons, that no money can buy.  Micah's twin brother Nathaniel got to be part of it on the last day as well, and that was special.

But then the work began!  We went over and helped them process all that good meat for several nights.  Yes, they could have spent $300.- $400. to have that done, but why do that when there were so many willing hands to help?  The boys helped as well, and we spent a special time talking over the tables as we cut steaks, made hamburger meat, and jerky meat.  Before we knew it, we were done, and they had alot of meat in the freezer!  Praise God!
These boys will have all that gone in no time.... thankfully Elk season is around the corner!

Welcome!

Welcome to our home!
We are a christian couple that have come back to the blog world to shed a positive light to life.

Stop by and see what we will pull out of our trunk to share. It could be our latest jewelry creation ( Jim is the talented one and Connie is learning). You might find a receipe we are fixing, frugal living, decorating and crafts. Or perhaps our thoughts as we journey through this stage in life.

Come and share your thoughts, join us on this journey. We would love to hear from you!
