Praising God for their service.

From I Love Jesus on Facebook today.

Memorial Day is always a special time!

Time for hamburgers and hot dogs and get togethers...
Watching a baseball game and sharing a day with those you love.

Memorial Day is saying "Thank You for your service", to the warriors still with us, and remembering those gone home to heaven.
Who are you honoring today?
Today we remembered Ma's Dad, Lewie W. Nixon.

Daddy was in WWII, and never spoke of the battles he was in.  I only got a clue when we buried him at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, and a gentleman there commented that his division was in alot of big battles in WWII.  So far I believe one was the Battle of the Bulge. I am still researching more about company A, 15th armored infantry battalion, and the 5th armored division.   He was such a gentle soul, and I cannot imagine what he saw. He had a bronze star medal.

Today, our daughter and son-in-law and our grand daughters went to honor him and my mama Marilyn at Ft. Logan. That was a precious gift to this Grandma and Grandpa to see that.

Our daughter pictured here, Marilyn, was named for this Grandma she is visiting.

Great grandma and grandpa enjoyed the visit I know!

Then Pa Jim was on the commissioning crew of the USS John F. Kennedy!  They made several trips to the Mediterranean.  They monitored the first Libyan crisis in the late 60's and early 70's, and stayed there to "keep the peace".  Not much has changed in 40 years has it?  It is still the #1 hot spot.

The purple shirt means Av-fuels, they fueled the jets on the flight deck! We are so proud of his service!

Then the next generation, our nephew Doug served in Dessert Storm. We love you Doug... you were not drafted, but chose to serve.

It was after I started doing genealogy that we realized that many of our family members served.  Going back to Knights of old in England and Ireland.   It is amazing!

In our country though...

We have Daniel Thomas Wood who served in the Civil War.(North)
George Nixon and Aaron Lynch and more were in the Revolutionary war.

And we are related to Thomas Lynch (Declaration of Independence signer)
And George Washington.

From the beginning of our nation on.... many family members, put their life on the line for what they believed in.
God and Country.

So, as we celebrate today, we say thank you dear love ones.
All of you, for your service,
What a special gift of love and sacrifice you gave us!

Waving our flag, and giving thanks.

In our garden again.

Thought I would share some of our garden today.
We have been busy, and God has been busy making it pretty.

Our Clematis was beautiful this year, I did not get out there to get a picture of it in it's glory.  But, here is a taste.

The Columbine is one of my favorites, it is Colorado's state flower.

This is Mama Marilyn's rose, I dug this bush up shortly after she passed away in 2004.  It is really putting on a show now!..

Here is some of our Snapdragons.  The Honeysuckle is blooming in the background as well.  We have another day or two of whacking away at the dead growth, and we will be done, but look how it is growing!

And here is today's project.  1/3 of the garden!  We have a watermelon, 3 big tomato plants, and 6 small, and 3 green peppers. We also planted a cucumber at the other end of the garden (not shown).  We hope to get the rest planted in the next few days.  The rest are seeds.  Green beans, Christmas Lima's, Beets, Radishes, and we will see what else we have room for.  We are leaving plenty of room this year between rows to use our little Mantis to till between them so Ma does not have to hand weed so much.  We also planted our 2 big pots outside, with another Lily in one (there are more lilies in there as well), and the one in the center of the yard has Petunias and Slavia.  Also have a hanging pot of 2 Fuchsias planted today.

We love summer, and the beauty God gives us each day.  Although we are moving abit slower, we still love to be in the garden and enjoy it.

Also had a surprise inside!

We have had a Hoya for several years and it has not bloomed. But it has 2 blooming right now!  We are so excited.  We have a special story about this Hoya.  Jim's father had a HUGE one in the 1970's, and when the folks went into a nursing home this plant was given to a green house in Montrose.  They took many starts off of that plant and sold them.  Our dear neighbor Ralph ended up with one of those plants, and this is a start off of it.
It is like the Hoya has come full circle, back home.  Even one of our girls have starts off of Ralph's plant as well.

Since it is way too hot outside to work now, we put our hoes to rest for another day, and are resting as well, and enjoying the cool inside. We hope you all are having a blessed Sunday!

Enjoying God's Handy work,

Ma and Pa

When I Come Home to Heaven.

When I come home to Heaven
How joyful it will be!
For on that day at last
My risen Lord I'll see.
No greater happiness than
to see Him face to face,
To see the love in His eyes
And feel His warm embrace.
Then why should earthly cares
Weigh down upon me so?
They'll be a distant memory
When home at last I go.

Esther Anna Lynch Chambers went home today!
Praise God, she so wanted to be Home.
We will never forget her, but we will see her SOON!

Celebrating a beautiful life.

No matter how small....

Just had to share how God answers prayers.  No matter how small.

You will remember my post Farewell dear friend.  Jim lost a dear friend, and since he has really missed him dearly.

His good friend D.J., the other friend of the "three musketeers" that was always together, has been on our e-mail list, but the phone number we had for him no longer worked.

I asked the Lord to somehow get Jim and D.J. back together.
And, D.J. called Jim today!  Praise the Lord! He has not spoken with D.J. for 41 years!

God answers prayers, no matter how small.  Pa Jim is praising the Lord right now, and is so happy!

Praising God,

Ma and Pa

Save and Savor, don't push aside and replace!

Perhaps it because of my age, or perhaps because I treasure remembering the past (ie. genealogy, history). Or it could be I treasure my family and friends.  But, lately we have been spending some time with our older friends and family.

What we are finding is the 80-90 year old people in today's world that are still living at home are just needing some TLC from anyone.  Family, if nearby, are usually busy in their world, and do not always have time to spend with their family member.

All they want, is friendship, a helping hand here and there, and a listening ear.

As Jim and I look around we also see how our world shapes the younger generation.  People are rushing about, buying newer, better things, and they are getting rid of the old.
Why fix up this old home, or car, or be content with something older that works, when we can buy new.

Now, please don't think I am being critical.  I am just saying what we see.

Today, we took a trip, to see our dear Aunt Esty.  She lives with her son Terry close to Ouray, and it was so good to get out of town, and see them.

We went through the towns of Delta and Montrose, both towns we have lived in.  It occurred to us that these towns, are still the same, as we go down the streets, we see most of the stores still open, there are a few that are empty, but for the most part they are busy and thriving.  We love seeing the older homes, cared for and manicured with love.  There are many mobile homes out in the country, also cared for with love.  People that are in the "country towns" tend to take pride in what they have, and treasure the past.  Older buildings are treasured, older cars are in car shows, and grandma and grandpas are honored.

As we got closer to Ouray our breath is taken away by the view.

That is where we were heading to those beautiful San Juan's.  Look at the snow still on them.

A little further we seen another beautiful sight.

Still part of the San Juan's, this is the back side view of the Cimarron area.  This view also shows you where the movie True Grit was filmed.  Isn't it beautiful?
This area is where the middle fork of the Cimarron is.  Our most treasured camping site.  Jim describes it as the place God sat down on the 7th day and rested after creating our world, because it was beautiful. We have asked our children to scatter our ashes there when God takes us home.

On to Terry and Aunt Esty.  We wanted to go today as Esty has very few days left.  She is 93 years old!  She had another stroke last Friday, and is very weak.  But she knew us, and was so glad to see us.  She told us she loved us... and she said just wanted to go home.  She is the baby of the Lynch's, the only one left of Jim's Aunts on that side and has lived such a good, and inspiring life.  We were blessed to visit with her and Terry.

Terry is a bachelor, and finds it an honor to care for his mom.  He is so caring, proud, and gentle with her.  Both he and his sister Joann have cared for her since Uncle Don passed on 11 years ago.  We visited with Terry, as Esty slept, and he was happy just to have us there.

We came home with joy as we were able to visit once again with our loved ones.  Terry sent us home with some pictures of Jim's family.  Pictures that Aunt Esty had put in an album through the years, and some precious pictures of Jim's grandparents that Terry wanted us to have.

So we our hearts were encouraged today by our trip.
We pray that this generation does not loose the lesson of treasuring older things or people.  They all need to be treasured and cared for, to be given love and TLC, because they all have so much to teach us, if we will just look, listen and care.

Blessed today,
Ma and Pa
